What Is The Best App for Reading News Online?

If you’re an avid reader of news, you probably enjoy having your printed newspaper, desktop, or smartphone nearby. Because the news is a vital part of your day, we put together different ways you can access your favorite news. Here’s a look at the best app for reading news online.

Best News Feed App For Desktops and PCs

Searching for trustworthy, high-quality news websites (webpages) on your Windows desktop or PC (laptop or tablet) can take some work. Once you find some useful sites for current affairs, it can be frustrating bouncing back and forth between pages just to get today’s scoop. Whether you read one specific news category like sports or other various subjects, there’s an easier way: The OneLaunch news app. The application is simple to use and lets you view the latest news with a single click.

To set up the OneLaunch newsfeed app, open OneLaunch (download and install OneLaunch if you don’t already have it) and tap the plus sign up at the top in the dock area. The OneLaunch marketplace opens up with all the available apps you can save in the dock for quick access. To pin the news app, simply hover over the news icon and check the box in the upper-right corner. Now your news app is in the dock and only requires you to click on it to open.

By default, the news app is set to general news; as a result, you will notice that today’s stories cover a wide range of topics. Clicking on any will take you to the news source’s website (like USA Today, Business Insider, and Newsweek) so you can continue reading the article. You can scroll to the right for additional stories. If you want to change the general news to a more specific topic, click the drop-down menu and select which category you would like to read. Any time you choose a category, it will change all the news to that topic and change it in your dashboard as well (more on that in a sec.). Here are the news categories you can choose from:

  • General
  • Entertainment
  • Sports
  • Gaming
  • Money
  • Lifestyle
  • Health
  • Autos
  • Shopping
  • Video
  • Travel
  • Local

You can read the news either through the news app in the dock or by clicking the dashboard icon also in the dock. The dashboard displays today’s top news and the weather, popular apps, and your bookmarks for quick, convenient access. Again, you can change the news category within the dashboard to match it in the news app. News based on your location is a feature coming soon.

Apps For Daily News On Your Phone

How can you get the news you want while on your phone or non-windows tablet? We have a few suggestions:

Google News: Ideal for Android smartphone users, the Google News app offers a worldwide mix of stories across topics such as science, entertainment, and technology. Anyone can access Google News, and it is free to use if you have a Google account.

Associated Press: The free AP News app provides real-time news coverage in English and Spanish.

Police Scanner – Scanner Radio: If you’re interested in keeping up with the latest major events like public safety issues, traffic, weather, or emergency alerts in your county or listening to news from other states, you may enjoy the Police Scanner app. It is free to download and use (with ads) but does require a subscription for an ad-free version.

Custom News Feeds

An aggregator may be exactly what you need if you want to create a news feed. What is an aggregator? An aggregator collects information from various sites and puts them all in one place.

SmartNews: With the SmartNews app for Android phones, you can select channels such as Entertainment, Sports, and Science to view only the latest news related to your selection(s). The app is free to use but has ads.

Pocket: You can choose from recommended news stories or explore trending articles yourself using the Pocket: Save. Read. Grow. app. You can also bookmark and manage lists of articles you want to save for later reading.

Flipboard: If you want a magazine-like news browser, Flipboard allows you to customize your news feed based on your favorite topics and news sources. The Flipboard news aggregator app works with Apple, Android and Windows.

Between the OneLaunch news app for your Windows desktop and laptop and other news apps for your tablet and phone, the latest news is right where you want it; at your fingertips.
